When one of my best friends passed away, she left behind a cat, and I made the decision to bring her cat home and care for it. At that point, I had no experience with any pets, except for a few goldfish I had as a kid. I was so thankful to have my ADHD spouse, who had lots of experience with pets growing up. He became my sensei when it came to learning all things about pet care. While I handle most of the day-to-day care for our pets (yes, we now have more than one cat!), I rely on my ADHD spouse’s knowledge and experience whenever something doesn’t seem right.
Recently, our cat was diagnosed with a life-long illness, and when he refused to take his medicine, it was my ADHD spouse who figured out how to hide the medicine in the cat’s toothpaste to get her to eat it. I’m forever grateful for his patient teaching and creative solutions when it comes to our pets.
