My ADHD spouse does his best with putting our clean laundry in all the right drawers, but his forgetfulness creates laundry hunts for us from time to time. Once in a while, we just can't find what we are looking for, and weeks later, the missing item shows up in unexpected places. Over the years, I've learned that misplaced laundry or forgetting to put away the last few items are small matters not worth getting upset over because I know he was likely distracted when it happened. Instead, I thank him for his continued dedication to getting through the chore every week and ask him to help me either find the item or put the rest of it away. This allows us to have a positive outcome that we both want - for him, he sees that I value his help, and this gives him a little hit of dopamine to want to do more to make me happy. For me, I continue to stay hands-off on house chores that he owns so I can focus on more important tasks.
